TEF also engages students in creating public art to enhance the community’s walking experience. The local Health Equity Zone (HEZ) helped create uniform signage to mark the walking path and organizes evidence-based walking clubs for adults at risk of heart disease, hypertension and diabetes.
In our summer program, we created artwork with our youth to engage them in discussions about healthy habits like eating healthy foods, drinking water and regular exercise. TEF transformed their artwork into signs installed along the walking path, written in both English and Spanish. We transformed the signs into 4 murals with the messages: Drink Water • Be Well, Eat Healthy • Be Happy, Smile Often • Be Kind, Stay Active • Be Fit. The murals are installed at Ama’s market.
