Hasbro – Mr. Potato Head

Mr. Potato Head was created in 1952 and revolutionized the toy industry as the first toy advertised on TV. Here in Pawtucket is where the Hasbro headquarters can be found. It is adorned with a 6-foot-tall Mr. Potato head, a similar-sized Mrs. Potato Head, and 16 more giant potato heads are rumored to be scattered throughout the state. Around the start of the new millennium, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation thought the giant potato heads would be a promising idea to bring people to the state, as well as celebrate Rhode Island’s Hasbro success. Starting with some 40 Mr. Potato heads, less than half remain to this day, with the ones at the Hasbro headquarters being the most well-preserved and well-known.

Among Hasbro’s products are Transformers, G.I. Joe, Power Rangers, Rom the Space Knight, Micronauts, M.A.S.K., Monopoly, Furby, Nerf, Potato Head, Ouija boards, Play-Doh, Twister, and My Little Pony – all known by kids and adults worldwide.

 

History of The Baldwin Loop Walking Path 

The Baldwin Loop Walking Path, established in 2017 by The Empowerment Factory, is the first walking path in Pawtucket. It is highlighted during the Healthy Living Community Event each year and has since become a beloved community asset. The path winds through the area surrounding Baldwin Elementary School and features artwork created by community members and local students. 

Residents are encouraged to use the path for exercise and engage in various activities accessed through QR codes placed along the way. Since 2017, the Baldwin Loop Scavenger Walk has been an integral part of the Healthy Living Community Event, promoting both physical activity and community involvement. 

In 2024, The Empowerment Factory will debut new artwork along the path, featuring historic locations throughout Pawtucket. QR codes will provide information on each location, enhancing the educational aspect of the walk. The scavenger walk, scheduled from September 1 to September 7, promises to be a highlight of the 2024 Healthy Living Community Event.
